My housemate in Brussels who was Canadian reckoned he was the first officer on that flight !
Not sure if it was true but he said it was an experience.

I was there at LBA that day and the DC10 30 had no problems off the LBA runway - taking off on runway 14 alongside the top of the N/S Taxiway (as was).

Oh he said it was a nice change and a challenge ! Runway 14 is little problem for take off.
Were you there when the Wardair B747 landed on runway 14 ?

No A300boy, I was at work. As Wardair came in on Monday lunch times, I only got to see them when on leave.

I was at school in Menston and would hear the whine and then see it pop over the top of the chevin about 12.55 - 13.00HRS I recall?

View attachment 7905 Remember the Tupolev 154 inclusive tour flights ?

The freezing fog and snow outside in Barnsley has prompted me to raid the archives. We don't seem to have much to capture our attention at LBA these days.

Tupolev TU154B LZ-BTD is pictured on Stand 6 probably when it made its first visit on 24 August 1985. Balkan Airlines operated two flights every weekend during the summer for Balkan Holidays to the Black Sea resorts, one each to Varna and Bourgas.

The Stand 7 airbridge didn't exist at this time, hence the reason why such large aircraft could be marshalled onto Stand 6.

Yes we had our share of 727s, 154s, L1011s and DC10s at LBA. Iconic aircraft pretty much lost forever. I think it is good to see more manufacturers creating regional jets so we can move away from just seeing a B737 or A320 at LBA. Thinking Bombardier, Sukhoi, Embraers here. Well suited to grow LBA into Europe

To think at one time Tridents and 727s were so commonplace, didn't really take much notice. Having said that I never flew on a Trident and only once flew on a 727 belonging to JAT from Split to Heathrow.

Does anyone else remember the Air France Concorde that came back for his final flypast after his weekend visit...normally they used to do a low flypast along the runway in the nose-high landing configuration, then climb away. But this one was different - he came in very fast over the Chevin and hurtled along the runway, then lit the 'burners and went straight up like a Lightning. The only thing he didn't do was to aileron roll the aircraft...

Anyone else remember that? It must have been say 1993 or 1994 or so...

The Air France Concorde was August 1986 - I was there. Bright blue skies and a forty knot crosswind !

'86? Crumbs that's a while back :) That must be about the time that Tristar landed long and fell off the end...

Wow. I can still remember: we lived in Albert Square and we were wondered what was up when the F-27 Friendships were all taking off over our house. Back then they still had another useable runway - Rwy 27, I think - and they were using it because the main runway had a big red BA Tristar tail fin sticking up at the southeastern end.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
