I flew from LBA to PMI with Orion on G-BHVI which was Boeing’s 737th 737.Sorry about quality.View attachment 14588
wow I was up at lba all that day, think the corsair sp landed around 11.15, it was one of the first in I believe, it was suppose to be a 747 200 but the sp turned up and an oasis md83 if im right? Then in the late eve a dc10 flew in,challenge air or something like that? One of the many superb visitors to LBA for the Euro 96 game at Elland Road - Spain v France - was Boeing 747 SP of Corsair, F-GTOM.

I was up there all day too. Yes the Corsair came in fairly early. The DC10 you refer to was the 2nd of the day - the first one was AOL, but burst several tyres on landing, so had to be replaced by the 2nd one that flew in empty later in the day. The AOL aircraft remained on the apron for most of the day until it had its tyres changed and didn't carry the passengers back to France.wow I was up at lba all that day, think the corsair sp landed around 11.15, it was one of the first in I believe, it was suppose to be a 747 200 but the sp turned up and an oasis md83 if im right? G-MOND was, I believe, the first 757 ever to land at LBA, and I am fairly sure it was pretty much empty - not carrying passengers. Later it made other visits to LBA on ad hoc flights. I have a photo of one of them. When Monarch finally operated from LBA on a regular basis (if you can call a single Saturday charter regular), they used the Boeing 737 200. That was around 1983 from memory.Although it does look like catering is been taken aboard so maybe im wrong. It sits in my album next to a photo of a Monarch 757 that definitely did make a promotional visit. Even after all these years I can remember the registration G-MOND.
The first arrival of the day was the AOM dc10 which parked on the old runway, then the corsair 747 arrived around 11.15 I think as well as an oasis md83, The corsair then departed around lunchtime empty but then im sure the dc10 that landed in the late eve was for the corsair pax?I was up there all day too. Apologies. MD82 D-ALLT was wearing Oasis colourscheme.I worked the full day at LBA on Saurday 15 June 1996 to oversee the aviation effects of the France v Spain Euro '96 match and, whilst I now suffer from a hazy memory, I do have detailed records for the LBA airliner operation.
The Air Outre Mer (AOM) DC-10 F-ODLX landed from Paris CDG as AOM7581 and parked on Runway 28 for the day. I don't recall any unservicability with this aircraft and it departed with the intended passenger load back to Paris CDG as AOM7582 later in the evening.
The biggest logistical problem occurred with a planned Corsair B747-200 return trip. The aircraft was delayed on maintenance at (I believe) Cardiff and was unavailable for the Saturday morning. This resulted in two aircraft bringing in the French supporters from Paris CDG, Corsair B747-SP F-GTOM as CRL888 and Aero Lloyd MD82 D-ALLT as CRL224. These departed empty as CRL081 to Paris Orly and CRL022 to Palma respectively.
The plan was always to bring in the B747-200 for the evening return but the aircraft suffered an additional technical problem and was unavailable. Three aircraft were required for the passenger rescue which extended into the very early hours of Sunday morning! Chalengair DC-10 OO-JOT positioned from Manchester as CRL082, then to Paris CDG as CRL889. Star Airlines Boeing 737-300 F-GRSA positioned from Nantes as CRL040, then to Paris CDG as CRL586. The third aircraft had to be extracted from the row of parked aircraft on Delta Taxiway that were intending to stay overnight. Air Jet BAe146 F-GLNI completed the passenger hoovering up and operated to Paris CDG as CRL824.
Hope this helps.
