Does anybody remember the name of the air traffic controller in the tower pictures?

Thanks, yes of course. Did he retire? I recall no longer seeing him but I don't recall him retiring. He always seemed a polite chap.Jeremy Charnock
Jeremy Charnock was the Senior Air Traffic Control Assistant and retired about 10 years ago. Thanks, yes of course. Did he retire? I recall no longer seeing him but I don't recall him retiring. He always seemed a polite chap.
As a little one I remember seeing a nationair dc8 at LBA, amazing sight!I remember seeing the Odyssey 757 (later Nationair) and Air 2000 737 several times. I think the latter was only with A2K for one season - British Midland took it eventually.
If I remember right, Andy Rackham had some involvement with the Air Yorkshire group. We used to meet in the south side flying club, I think monthly. Some trips were organised by them, including a local trip in a DC3, which was great fun for me, as up to them I’d only ever flown in 737-200’s to Spain & Greece.Andy Rackham wasn't working at LBA at this time. He came back in 1984.
Also co-owned Air Supply I believe.
was mike dixon the other half

I'm sure I remember that the training captain for Air UK(or possibly Air Anglia) at LBA around this time was called William Scarlett,so there really was a Captain Scarlett flying around the skies of Yorkshire!Sue was great - helpful, knowledgeable and patient with everyone. So was Carol but she could be fierce!
Les Rackham was originally on the Bass Charrington Piaggio then BKS/Northeast/British Airways on the Viscount. I think Air Anglia had morphed into Air UK by the time he joined them.
The chief pilot for Air Anglia at the LBA base was Ralph Scarlett with the nickname (as many ex RAF pilots had) of Will. He started in 1976 and sadly died at his York home a couple of years ago. The other two captains at the base opening were the already mentioned Les Rackham, and Jack Richardson, both ex British Airways. There was indeed a Captain Scarlett.
Brian DaykinThere was also an Air Anglia pilot with the surame of Dakin. Cant remember his first name but A300 boy may. Remember him telling me about flying in the Far East and being struck by lightning that entered the fuselage and formed a ball that travelled the length of the aisle and blew a hole in the rear of the fuselage as it left. No idea of other details but in my minds eye I imagine a DC3 flying between cumulonimbus somewhere in Indonesia.
