For some reason I never did managed to get a decent shot of there aircraft or when the larger Airbus A330 visited.

Icelandair Boeing 757-200 TF-FII made an unexpected visit on 01 October 2006 when it operated in lieu of a BritishJet MD90 on flights FHE32A/5320 from Malta to Manchester.

Sad day in history

25 years ago today, May 24th 1995 Knight Air flight "nightway816" operated by Embraer 110 Bandeirante G-OEAA crashed in Dunkeswick, North Yorkshire killing all 12 people on board shortly after take off from Leeds Bradford operating a scheduled flight to Aberdeen. R.I.P

I watched it depart off 14 in a storm then went to a friend's in Harewood to get ready to go out. Within minutes of getting there it was like every Police car, ambulance and fire engine in the area was heading down the A61. I only found out what happened next morning when I got up and it was less than 2 miles from where I was in Harewood. Very sad day.

I remember being shocked by the reports of it at the time. Attributed to the loss of one or both artificial horizons in what were described as “turbulent” instrument flying conditions leading to disorientation of the pilot and consequent inability to control the aircraft.

35 Years ago today, May 27th 1985: British Airtours Flight KT101 from Palma, operated by L1011 Tristar, registration G-BBAI overran the runway at Leeds Bradford Airport. There were 412 people onboard.

How time flies. I have such a clear mental picture of the aeroplane's tail inelegantly stuck in the air when I was on my way back home from The Chevin. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. One doesn't forget sights such as those.

That's what happens when you land more than half way down a 2250m long wet runway in an L1011 with 400 pax and fully loaded with cheaper Spanish fuel!

It was sat up at LBA for around 6/7 weeks before it left after being repaired.

From memory, 6 weeks. It flew out and the following week, flew back again on the same route. It visited LBA several more times as did the crew who took it off the end of 14!

It was longer than six weeks. I was back at school when it left for Gatwick so at least September. I remember the departure was on Radio Leeds.
