I worked for Lambson's in the mid nineties and have a nice picture taken airside of both the Bandeirantes parked on the apron at Leeds.

I'll post it on the Forums Twitter account over the weekend.

Does anyone remember the Phillippines S360 at LBA. Why was it there? I seem to remember it was parked for a while over where Multiflight is now

I believe one of them was put on the fire dump and used for training, EI-BTI I think.

Its not a philipines one on the dump, its the old aer arran one which crashed at sheffied which is in use by the fire dept.

Hi Re Philippines G-BNFD I have a photo of it but would like some info on how to post it on the forum :whiteflag:

If you go to the gallery, the link is at the top right and at the top of every forum page. Go to the LBA gallery. From there go into the gallery and click the upload option where you can select a file from your computer. Once upload the forum will generate codes and url address you can use in the forum and elsewhere. It's not as difficult as it sounds so don't be put off.

I stand corrected, apologies.

Hi Tony

Your photo made it to the gallery. I see you tried three times so I take it you thought you'd not uploaded it correctly. Sorry for the delay in it showing it but they have to pass through a moderation queue before they can go live. It's to stop spammers.

The code you use to post in the forum is underneath your picture in the gallery and should look like this to create the image above with credits.

I seem to recall this aircraft operating on behalf of one of the main airlines operating into LBA at the time. Was it flying for AirUK on the Belfast International route can anybody remember?

In the movements thread I mentioned a strange departure track made my the Ryanair Riga flight today, which made me think about some of the past movements where aircraft have followed some odd or irregular tracks.

A couple stand out, the first would be the Balkan Airlines which always seemed to return back to fly over the overhead after departure from runway 32. There were many occasions when I remember it going to the LBA hold before landing.

Every movement by this beast from the East was a marvel and I'd enjoy watching them every week throughout the summer months.

The second was the Euro Cypria aircraft which did the same after take-off it would always seem to pass the overhead before tracking to the East.

Most if not all the other scheduled traffic would tend to track to Pole Hill after departure.

Aviador. The flights you mention were heading east after departure so would have been flying towards Upton (near Pontefract) to join airway Blue 1. Occasionally these flights were cleared to route direct to the Ottringham VOR on the east coast, which would account for flying overhead the airfield after departure. I remember the JAT 707 used to do the same; I can still hear the distinctive mechanical growl of those engines over thirty years later !

Since standard instrument departures were introduced at LBA in 1995 these ad-hoc post-departure routings have largely disappeared.

The earlier post containing the Philippines Shorts 360 got me thinking. Can anybody recall the number of operators that used the Shorts 360 aircraft from Leeds Bradford? We have also seen the less popular Shorts 330 variety a couple of times, but I'm not sure if they were ever based at LBA.

Air UK, Jersey European ,Loganair, Genair and Gill Air all based at least one 360 at LBA during the eighties and nineties. The 330 was also operated by Genair and Metropolitan Airways, the latter taking over from the 'mainline' Dan Air HS748.

Brown Air also leased a 330 for a few months (G-BEEO) when it first added its Leeds-Glasgow route. Air Ecosse also used this type on its Gatwick-Leeds-Teesside service.

British Midland also occasionally sent their 360's on the weekend Heathrow services in the 1980's.

Who remembers our post flights in the dim and distant past. I'm sure one of the operators used Shorts 360's with the call sign Rapex.

The Shorts 330 and 360 are still my favourite aircraft.

A family friend who unfortunately passed away a few years ago now was a mechanic up at LBA (freelance) and we once went up to the airport, he fixed something on the Gill Air 360 and we taxied it accross from the hangars to the main apron (he also had a pilots licence).

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
