Welcome to the forum. A former Eastender then (Albert Square resident!!). 27 was great. I often saw stuff like DH8's take off right over the centre of Yeadon.

Air Anglia F27's regularly used the short runway when the wind was appropriate. I can just remember 01/19 being used on the odd occasion.

I am not sure when Runway 01/19 was taken out of service to become the North-South taxiway, but I believe it was well before Air Anglia operated at LBA. I know an ex ground dispatcher who worked for Servisair at this time and he confirmed that the only take off data for the airfield were for Runways 33/15 and 28/10.

As an update in the future years, Runway 33/15 was extended and became Runway 32/14, and the North-South taxiway was dug up and relaid to become Delta Taxiway.

One aircraft that did use runway 19 was the RAF Varsity that for many years languished on the western boundary as the airport fire practice aircraft. I was at the airport when it landed and was very surprised to see it land that way, although as it turned out, it placed it at the closest point to the fire dump after landing. I seem to recall it remaining in the loop next to the golf course after landing and very soon after, it was on the fire dump.

WL678 from memory

I have used it several times with our Leeds based Cessna 150 G-ATEG and various Northair new and used cessnas.
My employer Ernie Crabtree used to take off across the link of 19 with 32 when it was very windy from the west in Beagle 206, Aztec or Cessna 310 tpes.

I thought it would be interesting to look at just how many British Isles routes we have lost over the years. I think the list goes like this:

Aberdeen, Belfast International, Bristol, Cardiff, Cork, Edinburgh, Exeter, Galway, Glasgow International, Inverness, Isle of Man, London City, London Gatwick, London Luton, Norwich, Plymouth, Shannon.

Sadly really considering how useful these links used to be…and could still be.

Not sure how the folks in Shannon will react to being in the British Isles lol

Add Stansted to that list. Air UK operated an F27 service there way back. Or was it Air Anglia? No matter - someone did. As you might expect, it didn't last long. Also, add Bournemouth. Euro Direct operated a short lived service there using a Jetstream 31 in the 90s.

Euro Direct didn't operate Jetstreams. They only had 5 Bae APT.

Regards them comments, Are you sure LS27

As begs the question what these 3x aircraft are?

Stansted - Leeds - Edinburgh was the routing 3 times a day on a Air UK F-27 if my memory serves me right.

I'll pull out my old timetables when I get a mo to confirm schedule, year and frequency.

Thanks Jason. if only Loganair could think of doing something like that!! In fact, maybe Jet2 should as it would link 3 of their bases (tin hat on)!!!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
