How long ago are we talking there? I bet you could get steak and chips, go see George Formby at t' Palace Theatre, get blind drunk, but half a stone of monkey nuts and still have change on a farthing!!

Can remember flying in the early 60's from the then Yeadon Airport to Ronaldsway(IOM) on a Silver City Airways Bristol 170 Wayfarer. A very noisy experience - complimentary cotton wool provided for the ears!

Hey Maybe you were on the same flight as me, but I flew Yeadon-IOM in 1959 with Silver City, and yes I remember the noise, also the fact that we were unable to land back in Yeadon due to fog and so landed at Blackpool and then a bus to Yeadon. My first flight ever!

Oh ha ha, aren't we Mr Funny! Wasn't quite that long ago but as a guess probably around 1982 though could probably check specifically. That's if my ink and feather wrote correctly back then!

Diverted due to fog.......Not much has changed there then!

Except that nowadays there are various landing aids, etc etc which were not around then, especially on an old Bristol 170!!

I think I need to have a rummage through my cupboards at home and see what I can come up with. Nice to see a BA Cityflyer (Manx?) ATP and British Midland DC9 in the background behind G-UKLF.

I have been sorting things out (having a clear out) and came across a spotting book from 1982. The first page was a visit to LBA on 10th July. Only 8 aircraft seen of which 3 were airliners - Monarch B737 G-DGDP; Air UK F27 G-BDVT and on a charter flight, Busy Bee F27 LN-NPI.

I remember the Busy Bee F27 that year. 1982 also saw several Saturday charters by Nor Fly Convair 580 LN-BWN.

Busy Bee turned up at some point in the year, most years, with their F27s. The problem was knowing they were coming. No chance unless you knew someone at the airport. Braathens were another Norwegian airline to operate into LBA from time to time, and in fact they did that on 4th November 1984, the day of the runway extension opening, shortly after the Wardair and BA 747s.

Mey Air was yet another Norwegian charter airline to grace LBA in the seventies, using 737-200s. Busy Bee also had one 732 but I don't know if it ever visited LBA.

I wonder what it was about Norway and Leeds Bradford ?

Leeds United was one reason. At the time, there was a large following for LUFC in Norway - still is for that matter. The amount of support increased substantially when Don Revie's great side beat Lyn Oslo 16-0 on aggregate in the European Cup (or possibly Inter City Fairs Cup).

@The Pole ,Forums4airports.com

Was this the only visit to Leeds Bradford by a Wardair DC-10?

Yes it was. Operated directly to and from Toronto. I don't know how Birmingham managed that day.

Its ATC clearance was Pole Hill, Isle of Man, Upper Red 4, Belfast. Amazing how one remembers...

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
